In March 1994, Rwanda stood on the edge of darkness. Fear, division, and uncertainty filled the air, a shadow that had been growing for months as plans for the genocide against Tutsi were already in motion. The future of our nation seemed uncertain, and the threat of death loomed over every community. During that uncertainty, brave RPF/RPA boys and girls stood firm with courage and determination. They chose sacrifice over comfort, death over refuge and unity over division. When the storm of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi unfolded, they did not hesitate or turn away. They moved forward with resilience, discipline, courage, and an unbreakable belief that Rwanda could be liberated and that the genocide could be stopped despite the immense challenges they faced. Their struggle was not only a military fight, but it was also a fight for survival, dignity, and the right of every Rwandan to live without fear of what the next moment might bring. From April to July, their courage changed the course of our history. Through sacrifice and perseverance, they stopped the Genocide against the Tutsi and opened the path toward a new Rwanda built on unity, thinking big and accountability. Thank you, President Kagame, for leading a very complicated war and for not allowing the odds around you to weaken your zeal and determination to save Rwanda. The courage of those days is not just history; it is a lesson for all generations of Rwandans. It reminds us that even in the darkest hours, leadership, unity, and an unwavering commitment to human dignity can overcome despair. As Rwanda rebuilds and looks to the future, the story of our liberators stands as a beacon of hope, showing that a nation scarred by tragedy can rise stronger, more united, and more determined to defend peace and transform itself into a prosperous, resilient nation. Today, we honor that bravery and the spirit that carried Rwanda from tragedy to transformation. The legacy of those who stood strong reminds us that true patriotism means protecting life, defending our nation, and working every day to build a peaceful and prosperous Rwanda. May the courage of those days continue to inspire the RDF,RPF cadres and all Rwandans to serve with honor, discipline and love for our country, Rwanda. Your mission carries the dreams of a nation that chose unity over division and hope over despair. Rwanda will always rise.
