PM Nsengiyumva arrives in Arusha ahead EAC Summit

Prime Minister Justin Nsengiyumva on Friday, March 6, arrived in Arusha, Tanzania, where he will represent President Paul Kagame at the 25th Ordinary Summit of the East African Community (EAC) Heads of State Upon his arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport, the Prime Minister was received by Tanzania’s Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Dennis Londo, and Amb Gen (Rtd) Patrick Nyamvumba, Rwanda’s High Commissioner to Tanzania. The summit scheduled for Saturday will focus on strengthening regional trade, deepening integration, and improving the livelihoods of citizens across the bloc. This year’s summit will be held under the theme “Deepening integration for improved livelihoods of EAC citizens.” The summit will feature the launch of the EAC Customs Bond, a single regional guarantee designed to replace the need for multiple national bonds along transit routes. The initiative is expected to simplify trade procedures and reduce the cost of transporting goods across member states. Leaders are also set to unveil the Seventh EAC Development Strategy (2026/27–2030/31), a five-year roadmap aimed at accelerating regional integration, strengthening cooperation among partner states, and boosting economic growth. In addition, the summit will consider several key appointments, including the selection of a new Secretary General, judges for the East African Court of Justice, and commissioners for the EAC Competition Authority.
