The Embassy of Rwanda in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has announced plans to repatriate Rwandan nationals currently in the Middle East as US/Israel-Iran conflict continues to escalate. ALSO READ: Rwandans in UAE, Bahrain remain safe, says embassy In a notice issued on Friday, March 6, the embassy informed Rwandans living in the UAE and Bahrain that it is coordinating with the national carrier, RwandAir, and other relevant institutions to arrange repatriation flights for those who wish to return home. “All Rwandans wishing to be repatriated are therefore invited to register with the embassy as soon as possible,” the embassy said. ALSO READ: Rwanda-bound travellers stuck in transit in Middle East It added that the move comes in light of the evolving regional security situation and urged Rwandans in the Middle Eastearn countries to follow safety instructions issued by local authorities and stay updated through official communication channels. According to the embassy, no Rwandan national in the two countries has been reported harmed since the conflict began on Saturday, February 28. The conflict, which began with US and Israeli strikes on Iran, escalated with Iran retaliated by striking at Israel and US land and sea bases in multiple countries in the region. UAE alone has reported more than 180 missiles launched by Iran toward its territory, with at least three fatalities. By Wednesday, UAE defence ministry said it had intercepted more than 170 missiles.
