CanalBox rolls out ‘Igihe Cyawe Ni Iki’ campaign, offers free fiber installation

Group Vivendi Africa (GVA Rwanda), the company behind internet provider CanalBox, has launched a new campaign dubbed “Igihe Cyawe Ni Iki,” unveiling a limited-time free installation offer aimed at bringing more households onto its high-speed fiber network. The campaign, introduced on March 4 and running from March 1 to 31, targets first-time subscribers in Kigali and Rubavu District who wish to connect to CanalBox’s fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) internet service. Under the promotion, new customers will not pay installation fees and will only cover their monthly subscription, removing one of the barriers to fast, unlimited home internet. Speaking at the launch, GVA Rwanda CEO Aime Abizera said the company believes it is time for more households to embrace fiber internet, describing it as a service that “truly changes life.” “It changes the way you communicate; it changes the way you entertain yourself; it changes the way you work remotely or even manage your business, especially if you run an e-commerce platform,” Abizera said. According to the company, the free installation initiative is designed to remove one of the biggest barriers to fiber adoption, the upfront cost of equipment and setup. “Clients are only required to pay for the subscription. We are making it easy for them to own CanalBox fiber at home,” Abizera explained. Breaking it down further, he noted that the Rwf25,000 package translates to roughly Rwf800 per day or about Rwf100 per person per day for an average family of eight, for unlimited and high-speed internet access. Particularly, Kigali has seen major deployments in areas such as Kimironko, Remera, Giporoso, Bumbogo, Busanza, Rusororo, Masaka, Kabuga, Gatsata, Nyabugogo, Kimisagara, Nyamirambo, Karama, Gikondo, Rebero and Nyanza. The company has also begun rolling out underground fiber in the city centre, including Kiyovu which they expanded to in 2026, through a partnership with the City of Kigali. CanalBox has also recently expanded in Byahi-Karukoko, Rubavu District and is currently covering an additional 5,000 homes in the northern part of the city in response to its rapid growth. Abizera said the selection of new areas is based on market studies assessing household density and potential demand, as fiber-to-the-home requires a certain number of residences to ensure viability. “Our ambition is to democratise the internet. But since this is physical infrastructure, we cannot deploy across the whole city or country at once. We move area by area,” he said. With the growing reliance on mobile data, CanalBox views fiber as complementary rather than a replacement. “We are not telling people to stop using the mobile internet. When you are outside, you need a mobile. But once you are home, fiber gives you unlimited and fast access for the whole family,” he said. He highlighted benefits such as streaming on smart TVs, video conferencing on platforms like Zoom and Teams, online gaming, social media use and access to global news, all without worrying about data limits.
