A tragic road accident on Saturday afternoon claimed the lives of 11 people near Gisenyi Hospital in Rubavu town after a cargo truck overturned, hitting a vehicle and a motorcycle. The accident occurred at around 2:00 PM in Nyaburanga Village, Nengo Cell, Gisenyi Sector, when a cargo truck (Mercedes-Benz, license plate KBH 185 Y) experienced brake failure. The driver, Dida Suleiman, 60, a Kenyan national, survived the crash with injuries. According to Rubavu District officials, the truck first struck a motorcycle carrying two people, who died instantly. A pedestrian was also killed on the spot. The truck continued uncontrollably and crashed into a taxi carrying eight passengers who were returning home to Rugerero Sector after attending church in Rubavu town. All occupants of the taxi lost their lives, except a child who survived and was rescued alive from the wreckage.
