The government has secured a $78.5 million (approx. Rwf114.2 billion) thanks to financing agreement signed with International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) to drive transformation in the agriculture sector. The agreement was signed on February 24, by the Minister of Finance and Economic Planning, Yusuf Murangwa, and IFAD Country Director Dagmawi Habte-Selassie, ALSO READ: Rwf111bn irrigation boost targets drought-hit Kirehe District The funding will support the Kayonza Irrigation and Integrated Watershed Management Project, Phase II (KIIWP2), alongside initiatives to strengthen small livestock value chains. The irrigation project, which has been funded by IFAD since 2019, has already expanded cultivated land, enhanced water management, and protected key catchment areas, resulting in higher crop yields and improved household incomes over time.
