A 58-year-old man in Bugesera District has been arrested for assaulting a street cleaner during her morning duties, accusing her of spreading dust onto his vehicle. The suspect, identified as Jean Bosco Rutikanga, allegedly committed the offence on February 22 in Kayenzi Village, Cyugaro Cell, Ntarama Sector. Police say he stopped his vehicle, stepped out with a stick, and beat the woman. “Following the assault, local residents immediately alerted the authorities,” said ACP Hamduni Twizeyimana, Police spokesperson for Eastern Province. “We also noted video footage circulating on social media. Police launched a search and successfully apprehended the suspect,” he added. Police said the suspect tried to settle the matter by offering the victim money. He first agreed to pay her Rwf3,000 but, lacking change, gave her Rwf5,000. Rutikanga is being held at Nyamata Police Station. His file has been handed over to the Rwanda Investigation Bureau (RIB) for further processing.
