The result marked a strong start to APR’s title defence and brought an end to the club’s four-match winless run across all competitions. After a tightly contested first half, Ouattara—who had troubled Kiyovu’s defence throughout the match—broke the deadlock just a minute after the restart. Mamadou Sy then doubled the advantage in the 72nd minute, effectively extinguishing Kiyovu’s hopes of salvaging a draw. The two sides will meet again in the return leg on Tuesday, February 24. In another fixture played earlier at Kigali Pele Stadium, Gicumbi FC and Police FC shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw.
