Official registration for Rwanda’s new digital ID (e-Ndangamuntu) kicked off in Kigali on February 7, with enrollment centers set up across sectors in all three districts of the city. As the first week approaches the end on Sunday, February 15, officials urge residents to register promptly. However, registration rotates weekly. The registration in Kigali will run until April 2. ALSO READ: Where can refugees, foreigners register for digital ID? “Sites change every week, and once our teams move, residents will need to follow them to the new locations,” said Josephine Mukesha, Director General of the National Identification Agency (NIDA). ALSO READ: Where can refugees, foreigners register for digital ID? Residents aged 16 and above can complete pre-enrollment independently through the IremboGov website. Pre-enrollment includes entering personal data, verifying details, and correcting errors where necessary. Once pre-enrollment is complete, individuals must visit a designated registration site for biometric capture, including fingerprints and a photograph. For children under 16 and individuals with special needs, parents or legal guardians can verify and manage personal information on their behalf. Week one registration sites (February 7–15) In Gasabo District, registration is ongoing in Kimihurura Sector at the office of Rugando, Kimihurura, Kamukina cells, and at the Kimihurura Sector office, where foreigners are also being registered. In Kacyiru Sector, registration stations are located at Kamutwa, Kibaza, and Kamatamu cell offices, as well as ADEPER Kamutwa, ADEPER Kinamba, ADEPER Kabagari, SOS School Kacyiru, Amahoro Village office, and Kacyiru sector office. In Kicukiro District, registration is underway in Niboye, Kagarama, and Kicukiro sectors. In Niboye, registration is ongoing at Niboye cell office, EP Nyakabanda, Nyakabanda cell office, and Gatare cell. In Kagarama, registration is going on at Kagarama sector office, Kanserege cell office, Mayange cell office, and Rukatsa cell office. In Kicukiro Sector, it is at the sector office, Gasharu cell office, Kagina cell office, and Ngoma cell office. In Rwezamenyo sector, registration is at the sector office, Kabuguru I and II cells, Cefotrar Hall, New Hope Institute Hall, Intwari/Matimba village office, St Joseph, and Heartland. In Gitega sector, registration is active at the sector office, Kora and Kabeza cells, and Mpazi market. On the other hand, in Nyakabanda sector, registration is going on at the sector office, RICEM, Nyabugingo Church, APACE, and Kanyange village Early Childhood Development office. Next week: Sites changing (February 17–22) Mukesha confirmed that from February 17 to 22, registration will continue across Kigali, but sites will shift to new sectors, except for ongoing stations at City Hall and selected schools. In Gasabo District: Rutunga sector: Ku Bigega (Inzu y’Abagore), Indakemwa cell office, EAR Church, and Cyatwa cell office. Gikomero sector: Gikomero Olympic Stadium, Gicaca cell office, Kibara cell office, and Murambi cell office. Jali sector: sector office, Agateko cell office, Nkusi cell office, and Nyakabungo cell. In Nyarugenge District: Kanyinya sector: sector office and Nzove cell office. Mageragere sector: sector office, Mataba, Nyarurenzi, and Runzenze cells. In Kicukiro District: Gikondo sector: sector office, Kagunga cell, Kanserege cell, and Kinunga cell. Nyarugunga sector: Kamashashi cell (Ku bademobu), Nonko cell office, and Rwimbogo cell office. Flexible hours to accommodate everyone To ensure maximum participation, registration teams are working in shifts, from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., including Saturdays and Sundays. Monday remains the only non-working day. ALSO READ: Experts on how digital ID will make life easier “When we are in a sector, we also work directly with schools, hospitals, and other public institutions depending on the needs of the community,” Mukesha said. She cited collaboration with King Faisal Hospital in Kacyiru and coordination with school administrators to ensure parental consent where required. “We communicate in advance and follow a schedule provided by schools, especially for primary schools where parental approval is needed,” she added. To avoid unnecessary movement and delays, Mukesha urged citizens to register at the nearest station while it is still operating in their area. However, she maintained that anyone can register from wherever they are as long as they fulfill the eligibility requirements and documents.
