Rwandan judicial authorities are working with United States law enforcement to secure the deportation of Dieudonné Ishimwe, popularly known as Prince Kid, who was convicted of rape before fleeing the country. ALSO READ: Former Miss Rwanda organizer Prince Kid arrested in US Prosecutor General Angélique Habyarimana told reporters on Monday, February 9, that Rwanda has already submitted the required documentation asking for the deportation of the former organiser of the Miss Rwanda beauty pageant. “We issued an international arrest warrant in October 2024, and we are still waiting because he has other cases to respond to in that country,” Habyarimana said. “What we have to understand is that when someone is being prosecuted for another offence in a different country, it may take time. We are in contact with US authorities, but he has to first face justice there. When the time is right, we will receive him as requested,” she added. She explained that Rwandan authorities informed US officials about Ishimwe’s identity and the charges against him after learning about his arrest in March 2025 in Dallas, Texas. Ishimwe, 39, was found guilty of rape-related charges in October 2023 by the High Court in Kigali. According to US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), Ishimwe was arrested in Fort Worth, Texas, on March 3, 2025, following an arrest warrant issued by the Government of Rwanda over rape charges. ICE said Ishimwe remains in custody pending removal proceedings. The agency also noted that he had entered the United States legally but later violated the terms of his admission. He was reportedly residing in Fort Worth without authorisation prior to his arrest. Ishimwe’s trial attracted public attention in Rwanda between 2022 and 2023. In October 2023, the High Court in Kigali found him guilty of soliciting sexual favours and rape after overturning a lower court decision that had acquitted him. He was sentenced to five years in prison. However, he fled Rwanda before beginning his sentence.
