Friday, February 6 Men Tigers 78-68 APR Women APR 75-62 REG New signings Albert Odero and Antino Jackson combined for 34 points as Tigers Basketball Club claimed the Rwanda Super Cup with a 78–68 victory over APR at BK Arena on Friday, February 6. The Super Cup served as the curtain-raiser for the 2026 Rwanda Basketball League (RBL) season, pitting league champions APR against Rwanda Cup winners Tigers in a one-off showdown. Tigers set the tone early, edging APR 25–22 in the opening quarter. APR attempted to respond in the second period but were unable to wrest control, as both teams were locked at 22–22 for the quarter. At halftime, Tigers held a narrow 47–44 lead, a margin that offered little room for error. However, Henry Mwinuka’s side maintained their composure in the second half, effectively containing APR’s tempo and shutting down any serious comeback attempts. Kenyan-American guard Odero made an immediate impact in his debut, finishing as the game’s top scorer with 20 points. Paul Bizimana and Antino Jackson each added 14 points, providing crucial support as Tigers sealed a win few had predicted. In the women’s category, APR lifted the Super Cup after defeating REG 75–62. REG had won both the league title and Rwanda Cup in 2025. The 2026 Rwanda Basketball League season officially tips off on February 8.
