Kenyan Premier League side Kakamega Homeboyz are mourning the death of defender Silas Abungana, who reportedly succumbed to head injuries after an alleged assault by his younger brother in a family dispute. Abungana, 25, died on Wednesday, February 4, at Kakamega County Teaching and Referral Hospital in Kenya, where he had been admitted in critical condition following the incident at the family’s rural home a night earlier, according to Kenyan media reports. Local reports indicate that the altercation stemmed from a disagreement over family land and tensions surrounding the player’s marriage. During the confrontation, the suspect identified as Denmark Muchiti, allegedly struck Abungana with a blunt object, causing severe head injuries. Family members rushed the footballer to hospital, but he later died from what medics described as extensive brain trauma. Police have since launched a manhunt for the suspect, who remains at large. Kakamega Homeboyz chairman Cleophas Shimanyula described Abungana as a disciplined and promising player, urging authorities to bring the suspect to justice.
