Sudanese giants Al Hilal Omdurman are interested in signing APR FC centre-back Clement Niyigena, Times Sport has learnt. The Rwanda international, who has six months remaining on his contract, has caught the attention of Al Hilal head coach Laurențiu Reghecampf following a series of impressive defensive displays during the recently concluded first round of the Rwanda Premier League. Sources indicate that Niyigena is demanding a $50,000 take-home fee (approximately Rwf 70 million) before formal club-to-club negotiations can begin between APR and the Sudanese outfit. While APR are keen to retain their star defender, Niyigena is reportedly pushing for a move in order to feature in the CAF Champions League group stages. “We are very interested in him. We can’t force anything, but we will continue to monitor the situation and see if we can get him. He impressed us,” a source close to Al Hilal told Times Sport. It is also understood that Al Hilal have enlisted Jean Claude Girumugisha to help persuade Niyigena to make the switch. Meanwhile, Reghecampf’s side are also monitoring the situation of Ghanaian midfielder Seidou Dauda Youssif, as they explore the possibility of strengthening their squad further.
