Uganda elections: Early results show Museveni leads with 76% of votes

Early provisional results from Uganda's 2026 general elections indicate that incumbent President Yoweri Museveni is maintaining a commanding lead, securing approximately 76% of the votes. ALSO READ: Ugandans head to the polls as Museveni faces 7 challengers According to announcements from the Electoral Commission on Friday morning, Museveni of the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) has garnered about 76.25% of the tallied votes, equivalent to roughly 3.9 million votes. This is based on results from nearly 45% of polling stations nationwide, with tallying processes still ongoing across the country. The remaining share is distributed among six other candidates, who have received minimal support in the partial count. While these provisional figures show a strong position for Museveni, final official results are expected in the coming days as more polling stations report.
