The Mayor of Rubavu District Prosper Mulindwa has assured the visitors planning to flock the lakeside town of safety during the festive season. He made the remarks on Saturday, December 20, during the inauguration of Beach Expo 2025, an annual event that is organised by the Private Sector Federation (PSF) in Western Province, currently underway at the public beach. “Cross-border movement along our borders has significantly improved after previous security concerns stopped,” Mulindwa explained, highlighting that Congolese nationals are freely crossing into Rubavu town for various events and other businesses. ALSO READ: Rubavu-Goma border trade booms with 50,000 daily crossings The Western Province Beach Expo 2025 has attracted a total of 163 exhibitors, including participants from Kenya, Tanzania, Burundi, Egypt, Ghana, India, and Uganda, alongside Rwandan businesses, showcasing their products and services at Lake Kivu. PSF Western Province Chairperson, Ernest Nkurunziza, also echoed the mayor’s assurance, noting that all previous editions of the expo were held safely. “We are grateful to our security agencies for maintaining a safe and stable environment which allows such an annual event to take place smoothly,” the PSF chairperson added in his welcoming remarks. Adel Kamel, an Egyptian exhibitor showcasing jewellery, appreciated the organisation of the expo. He decided to participate after being encouraged by friends. “We appreciate both the security and the organisation of this exhibition,” the Egyptian exhibitor told The New Times. Rwanda is both a beautiful and safe country.”
