Rwanda has been officially approved as a member of the Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme (FIM), becoming the 125th country to join global motorcycle sport body. The development was confirmed during the 2025 FIM General Assembly held on December 5 in Lausanne, Switzerland, marking a major leap for Rwanda’s growing motorsport sector. The Swiss city also hosted the 2025 FIM Awards, where the world’s top motorcyclists of the year were recognised. Rwanda Automobile Club President Christian Gakwaya was also in attendance. According to Gakwaya, the affiliation represents a strong vote of confidence in Rwanda's capabilities and long-term vision for the development of motorsport, while also creating opportunities for the continued growth of motorcycling in the country. We are extremely happy about this achievement, said Gakwaya. Motorcycling has been part of our motorsport activities for years and with the support and, with the guidance of our government through the Ministry of Sports, we have developed a new roadmap focused on diversification, capacity building, and the ambition to host international events, including major motorcycling competitions. Beginning January 2026, races such as Motocross, Enduro, Trials, and more will be added to the national motorsport calendar, opening new opportunities and unlocking immense talent across the country.
