Trappish concert, a series of hip-hop shows organized by renowned Rwandan rapper Ish Kevin, is returning to Kigali's events calendar after a two-year hiatus. The development was confirmed by rapper Ish Kevin on Thursday, November 11, revealing that Trappish Concert is making a major comeback in December at Zaria Courts and promises to attract some of the best new-school musicians in the country. ALSO READ: Trappish concert shifts to Burundi The show was last held in 2023 in the Burundian capital at World Beach Buja, where over 10 artists from Rwanda and Burundi performed, celebrating both cultures and their existing historical connection. Speaking to The New Times, the Amakosi hitmaker said that due to public demand, Trappish concert returns for the large fan base of hip-hop enthusiasts who will be in Kigali for the festive season. The core aim of this event remains the same. It is designed to push young talents and give a platform to every capable artist to showcase their art, Ish Kevin said. “We believe that there are many talented artists out here who don't really come out and show what they've got. The first edition of this concert was held in 2021 and has since become a major platform for local artists, especially rappers, to showcase their talents on a big stage. Ish Kevin, the brains behind the show, rose to fame in 2021 with breakout singles such as Amakosi and No Cap—the latter was featured among 7 Hard Drill Tracks from Around the World by UK urban music platform GRM Daily. He has since cemented his reputation as a multilingual emcee fluent in English, Swahili, French, and Kinyarwanda. Recognized by The Native as one of Africa's top 12 rappers in 2021, Ish Kevin continues to shape Rwanda's hip-hop scene through his music, collaborations, and mentorship of emerging artists.
