The Rwanda Mines, Petroleum and Gas Board (RMB) confirmed a magnitude 4.2 earthquake recorded on Tuesday, November 11, in Western Province. ALSO READ: 14 students injured in panic after earthquake in Gicumbi The earthquake occurred at 16:39 and was felt in parts of the Western Province, according to a statement issued by RMB's Rwanda Seismic Monitor. Earthquakes of this magnitude are generally considered minor, and no damages are expected as a result of this event, reads part of the statement. Rwanda last reported widespread damage from earthquakes in May-June 2022, when neighbouring DR Congo's Nyiragongo Volcano erupted. Rubavu District was the most affected by the earthquakes that caused damage estimated at Rwf91 billion. Residential and commercial buildings as well as other infrastructure, such as health facilities, roads, electricity and water were also affected.
