Nyagatare gets new vice mayor

NYAGATARE – The former Kiyombe sector executive secretary, Enock Byabashaija has been elected as the new Nyagatare district vice mayor in charge of economic affairs. In a ceremony that attracted electoral commission officials and district local leaders in Nyagatare sector, Enock Byabashaija scooped the position unopposed. In early campains at the sector level, Enock Byabashaija dominated his challengers, Jean Pierre Mutabazi and Patrick Ruzirabwoba Mutimura which gave him a positive indication that he stood a good chance of bagging the top district position. The elections were presided over by Emmanuel Manirakiza, a judge from Nyagatare intermediary court. In his speech, the new vice mayor thanked residents for entrusting him with the post as their leader and promised to work hard for the purposes of fulfilling his commitments. ‘I first thank residents who entrusted me with this post and I assure them my commitment to fulfill my responsibilities,’ he said. The district mayor, Atuhe Sabbiti Fred who was the guest of honour at the function congratulated his new colleague and said that the district leadership committee has received a new person who will help to seal a gap that has been existent at the local authority. ‘Our leadership committee has been experiencing challenges because of a vacant place that was left by the current Gatsibo district mayor. We welcome our colleague on board and we hope he will be a team player as we go about serving the citizens,’ he said. The new mayor’s election comes months after the predecessor Anselme Majoro Rurangwa was elected Gatsibo district mayor. Prior to his appointment, Rurangwa was first appointed the Nyagatare district acting Mayor after Robert Kashemeza was sacked in July this year. Ends
