Rwanda Space Agency (RSA) launched on Monday a nationwide outreach campaign targeting high school students as part of the third edition of Space Week which runs from October 6 to 10. ALSO READ: Why Rwanda’s space economy is a catalyst for innovation and growth According to RSA the campaign is designed to inspire young Rwandans to pursue studies and careers in space-related sciences and technology, while raising awareness about opportunities within the national and international space sectors. “The 2025 edition in Rwanda will feature a series of activities including student outreach, public exhibitions, expert talks, and interactive learning sessions, all designed to raise awareness about the importance of space science and its impact on daily life,” reads a statement from the agency. ALSO READ: Rwanda launches CyberHub to boost cybersecurity skills and innovation The outreach kicked off at Rwanda Coding Academy, where students presented innovative project ideas for tackling world challenges using space technology. One of the showcased initiatives focused on how satellite data can be leveraged to predict natural disasters such as floods, helping humanitarian organisations issue timely alerts and support evacuations when danger looms. Javine Arahirwa, one of the students behind the project, said she worked on developing the model application that enables organisations to access real-time satellite information about potential natural hazards across the country. “With the help of AI, the app suggests preventive and pre-disaster solutions for communities at risk,” she noted. The 2025 theme, “Living in Space,” focuses on innovations and challenges related to sustaining human life beyond Earth. RSA said the outreach campaign is part of its broader strategy to nurture the next generation of innovators who will contribute to Rwanda’s long-term vision of harnessing space technology for socio-economic development.
