Italian rider Lorenzo Finn, 18, claimed gold in the men’s Under-23 race at the UCI World Cycling Championships in Kigali on Friday, September 26, 2025. He completed the 164.6 km course in 3 hours, 57 minutes, and 27 seconds. With 10 km to go, Finn launched a decisive attack on the final climb up MINAGRI, dropping Switzerland’s Jan Huber to secure a solo victory. Huber took silver, finishing 31 seconds behind, while Austria’s Schrettl claimed bronze, 1 minute and 13 seconds behind the winner. Finn, who also won gold in the Under-19 race at the 2024 World Championships in Zurich, was the youngest rider in the Under-23 field in Kigali. Out of 118 riders from 56 countries, only 56 finished the race. Samuel Niyonkuru was the only Rwandan to finish, placing 50th, 16 minutes and 4 seconds behind. It was his fourth time competing at the championships but his first finish since 2021, when he raced in the Under-19 category. The other Rwandan riders—Aime Ruhumuriza, Shadrack Ufitimana, and Etienne Tuyizere—did not finish.
