Two-time Olympic mountain bike champion Tom Pidcock will lead a smaller than usual British team at the UCI Road World Championships in Rwanda scheduled to run from September 21-28. Former Tour du Rwanda winner Joe Blackmore and teammate Bjorn Koerdt, both part of the men’s elite road race squad, were still eligible for the under-23 events. Two of Britain’s all-time greats have just stepped away from the sport — Lizzie Deignan, the 2015 women’s world road race champion, retired in July, while former Tour de France winner Geraint Thomas called time on his career earlier this month.
