JKT Queens grabbed the sole CAF Women's Champions League ticket which was reserved for the CECAFA Zone after edging Rayon Sports Women 1-0 to in the final held at Kasarani Stadium in Nairobi, Kenya, on Tuesday, September 16. The Tanzanian champions were back at the summit of the CECAFA Zone two years after wining the 2023 edition. JKT started the game strongly and opened the scoring in just the fifth minute as striker Winifrida Geraly capitalized on Rayon goalkeeper Angeline Ndikumana’s poor timing to head home the ball at the back of the net. The Tanzanians continued to play well pushing to extend the lead but Rayon defenders responded well. Despite conceding the early goal, Rayon dominated possession in the first 30 minutes in an effort to pull the scores level but JKT Queens kept them at bay until halftime. Blues’ coach Claude Rwaka made various changes before the second half as the team looked to keep their Champions League football hopes alive but JKT kept their nerves until full time. Their CECAFA Women’s Cup victory earned them a trophy, a prize money of $ 150,000 and a qualification for the CAF Women’s Champions League group stage. Meanwhile, despite the final loss, Rayon Sports made history by becoming the first Rwandan team to advance beyond the group stage in this competition.
