Nigeria’s campaign at the African Nations Championship (CHAN) came to a crushing end after suffering a humiliating 4-0 defeat to Sudan in their final group match. The Super Eagles went into the tie needing a win to keep their qualification hopes alive but were dismantled by a ruthless Sudanese side that dominated from start to finish. After what looked like a goal for Super Eagles in the first half which was rightly ruled out for offside, Sudan scored through an own goal and added the second through Walieldin Kedir. In the second half, they added two more goals to ensure that they whitewashed the Super Eagles 4-0. With the result, Nigeria are almost certainly out of the tournament as they sit last on the group with no point. Sudan sits first in the group with four points and superior goals aggregate. They are followed by the cup holders Senegal with same points while Congo, on two points, are third. Congo hold reigning champions Senegal Congo rallied from a goal down to earn a point off Senegal during the one-all draw in a CHAN 2024 Group D encounter at the Amaan stadium in Zanzibar. Senegal scored the opener through Dechan Moussavou in the 19th minute thanks to Charles Atipo’s donkey work. Layousse Samb grabbed the equalizer with eight minutes to play. The Teungueth defender scored off Seck Ousseynou’s assist. CHAN is played by players who feature in the respective domestic leagues on the African continent.
