Rwanda Premier League champions APR FC were again handed an uphill mountain to climb in the CAF Champions League after drawing champions Pyramids for the third season in a row. The two sides will square off in the preliminary round in what promises to be a tough hurdle for APR who lost the past two ties against Pyramids. APR will first host Pyramid September 19–21 Kigali before visiting the Africa champions in second leg in Egypt a week later. The last time the two teams met ended in Pyramids favour where they won 5-1 on aggregate (1-1 in Kigali and 4-1 for Pyramids in Egypt). The second qualifying round will be played on October 17-19 for the first leg, while the second leg will be played on 24-26 October. The teams which will fail to qualify for next round will each receive $100,000 (about Rwf144 million).
