The relations span several areas of cooperation, such as trade, education, healthcare, and infrastructure, among others. ALSO READ: Kagame in Beijing for China-Africa cooperation summit Rwanda’s export to China grew from $39 million (over Rwf54 billion in 2018 to $131 million (over 180 billion) in 2023, according to the Ministry of Trade. Over the last five years, trade between Rwanda and China has grown from $300 million to $550 million. The current bilateral cooperation agreement between Rwanda and China involves projects worth $600 million, the Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning said in September 2024. Notable projects supported by China include the extension of IPRC Musanze, the 54-kilometre Kigali Urban Road Upgrading Project, the upgrading works of the 66-kilometre Huye-Kibeho-Munini-Ngoma Road Project and the Sonatubes-Gahanga road (Airport Expressway Road). Ongoing projects include the Masaka Hospital Renovation and Expansion Project in Kicukiro District, the Nyabarongo II Hydropower Plant Project, and the Smart Education Project.
