Former Nigerian President Mohammadu Buhari died on Sunday, July 13 in a London clinic, his family confirmed. A former military ruler turned democratically elected leader, Buhari made history in 2015 when he became the first opposition candidate to defeat an incumbent. In 2019, he was re-elected for another four-year term. He had first served as the West African country’s president between 1983 and 1985 after a military coup. Muhammadu Buhari was born in December 1942 in Daura in Katsina state in the far north of Nigeria.
