The Ghanaian government has said confirmation of the commercial viability of a new oil and gas discovery will boost the country's crude oil production. In a statement issued late Friday, the Ministry of Energy and Green Transition described the development as a significant milestone in Ghana's upstream petroleum sector, marking the declaration of commerciality for discoveries within the Cape Three Points Block Four (CTP-B4), located offshore along the country's western coast. According to the statement, the declaration follows the successful completion of an appraisal program that confirmed the commercial viability of the Eban-1X oil discovery and the Akoma-1X gas and condensate find. The ministry added that the joint venture partners of the CTP-B4 block will begin preparing a comprehensive development plan focused on optimal resource recovery, value maximization, and enhanced local content participation. The declaration of commerciality of the Eban-Akoma discoveries is a major boost to our oil and gas sector, said Energy and Green Transition Minister John Abdulai Jinapor. Ghana first made commercial oil discoveries in 2007 and began production in December 2010. The country currently has three main oil and gas fields in operation.
