Rwandans and friends of Rwanda in China on Friday, July 4 marked the 31st anniversary of the country’s liberation (Kwibohora31). The event held in Beijing was organised by the Rwandan embassy in China, with attendance by officials from the Chinese government, diplomatic envoys, representatives of international organizations, and friends of Rwanda. ALSO READ: 31 years after liberation, transformation continues Speaking at the event, Ambassador James Kimonyo emphasized that Liberation Day is a time to honor the heroes who liberated the country and those who sacrificed their lives for the cause. He highlighted that Rwanda’s remarkable progress over the past 31 years is the result of a collective effort by the Rwandan people, guided by the visionary leadership of President Paul Kagame. ALSO READ: From struggle to strength: Young Rwandans on liberation’s legacy “Liberation is a day when we acknowledge the pain, loss, and suffering that defined generations,” Kimonyo said. “But it is also a day when we turn our eyes forward and celebrate the incredible strength and determination that allowed us to rebuild, rise, and thrive once again.” He expressed appreciation to partner countries and international organizations for their continued support throughout Rwanda’s development journey. “I express our deepest gratitude to our partners who have stood by us, providing both material and moral support throughout this journey.” Ambassador Lei Kezhong, who represented the Chinese government, praised Rwanda’s extraordinary transformation over the past 31 years and reaffirmed China’s commitment to continued cooperation and support. “Under the leadership of President Kagame,” the Chinese official said, “the Rwandan government and people have actively taken control of their own destiny, successfully blazed a development path suitable for the country's national conditions and continuously taken solid steps towards the realization of the Vision 2050. As true friends and good partners, we are sincerely happy about this and sincerely wish Rwanda greater achievements in various construction undertakings.” He noted that Rwanda is a traditionally friendly country and a strategic partner of China in Africa. “Since the establishment of diplomatic relations, the two countries have always respected each other, treated each other as equals, maintained close relations at all levels and achieved fruitful results in pragmatic cooperation,” he said.
