The Rwanda Rugby league is back after a three-year hiatus. The last game league was played in 2019. The league came to a halt ever since the Covid-19 pandemic hit Rwanda. While competitions in other sports resumed by the time the pandemic subsided, the local Rugby federation only managed to organize 7-aside and 17-aside competitions. “After all this long time, we are excited that the league is back. The teams are ready and we are ready for the new season,” federation president Tharcisse Kamanda told Times Sport. According to a fixture schedule recently released by the federation, the league season opens Saturday, November 19, and will close March 11, 2023. The 2022-23 league season will attract six teams: 1000 Hills Rugby Club, Lion de Fer, Kigali Sharks, Kamonyi Puma, Muhanga Thunders and Resilience Rusizi. 1000 Hills RFC play their opening game against Lions de Fer RFC in a match that will mark the official inauguration of the league season on Saturday, at Red Cross Kacyiru. In other matches, Kamonyi Puma RFC host Muhanga Thunders while Kigali Sharks travel to Rusizi for an away tie against Resilience. All opening matches happen on the same day.
