Rwanda will celebrate its national day at Expo 2025 Osaka Kansai on Friday, July 4, showcasing the country’s cultural resilience and post-liberation progress to a global audience. The six-month World Expo officially opened on April 13, 2025, and will run through October 13, under the theme “Designing Future Societies for Our Lives.” The exhibition brings together nations to share innovations, heritage, and ideas that shape future societies. At the exhibition, each participating country has its own day to celebrate its culture, innovation, development and technology. The celebrations that will coincide with Liberation Day will be jointly celebrated on July 4. Rwanda’s National Day at the Expo will feature a performance by the National Ballet Urukerereza, storytelling, and interactive exhibitions designed to showcase the country’s cultural wealth and its place in the global community. The event also aims to position Rwanda as a leading destination for tourism and investment. The official programme will also include the playing of national anthems of Rwanda and Japan, remarks by the Governor of Osaka Prefecture and a representative of the Government of Japan, a song by Oe Elementary School in Osaka, a documentary screening, and cultural performances. Rwanda’s participation will highlight how culture has been central to the country’s recovery and nation-building since the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi. The National Day celebration aims to reflect the resilience of Rwandans, who rebuilt their country through national unity. As part of preparations, Minister of Trade and Industry Prudence Sebahizi, accompanied by Rwanda’s Ambassador to Japan Marie-Claire Mukasine, toured several country pavilions at the Expo site, engaging with global innovations and experiences under the Expo’s theme.
