Rwanda suspends issuing new mineral trading licenses to review regulations

The Rwanda Mines, Petroleum and Gas Board (RMB) has announced a temporary suspension on the acceptance of new applications for mineral trading licenses, pending a review of the current regulations. The mining sector regulator said in a statement on Tuesday, June 24 that the move aims to allow the board to review and improve existing regulations governing the mineral trading sector. Our goal is to improve service delivery and strengthen regulatory compliance across the mineral trading sector,” the statement reads. RMB clarified that the suspension applies only to new applications. Renewals and amendments of existing licenses will continue to be processed without interruption.
