Rwanda names squads for African beach volleyball champs

Rwanda has named squads for the forthcoming Africa Senior Beach Volleyball Championships, set for June 25–29 in Morocco. According to Jean Claude Byiringiro, the Executive Secretary of the local volleyball governing body (FRVB), the men's team is composed of Gisagara VC skipper Gloire Niyonkuru and APR star Prince Kanamugire, while the women's squad features APR duo of Valentine Munezero and Benitha Mukandayisenga. The teams departed for Morocco Sunday, June 22. The delegation also includes head coach Christophe Mudahinyuka, physiotherapist Gisele Uwimana, and international volleyball referee Vedaste Ntanteteri. ALSO READ: National team coach names squad for World Cup qualifiers The tournament, to be hosted at the beaches of Tetouan and Martil in Morocco, will feature a total of 88 women’s pairs from 22 African countries and 114 male pairs representing 27 nations will be battling for tickets for the Beach Volleyball World Championships which will take place in November. Other countries joining Rwanda in the competition include Kenya, Egypt, Nigeria, Uganda, Senegal, DR Congo, South Africa, Botswana, Benin, Guinea-Bissau, Mauritius, Central African Republic, Mozambique, Niger, Cape Verde, Comoros, Sierra Leone, Togo, and host nation Morocco. Rwanda last championed in the 2024 Zone Five Beach Volleyball Olympic Qualifiers, securing a spot in the next round (Continental Phase) of Olympic Games qualifiers. They also secured a ticket for the upcoming All-African Games.
