Rwanda National Olympic and Sports Committee (RNOSC) has urged leaders of sports organisations in Rwanda to adopt Olympism365, an International Olympic Committee (IOC) strategy designed to reinforce the role of sport as a powerful enabler of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The strategy aims at ensuring that more people, especially from diverse backgrounds, benefit from participation in community sports programmes and experience the values of Olympism all year round. “Our mission is to develop athletes and their entourage, not only for sporting excellence but also for meaningful contributions to a better society,” said RNOSC Secretary General Joseph Kajangwe during a recent event. “When we talk about an athlete’s entourage, we mean their families, friends, and the broader community, the people who shape their environment. That’s why we are deeply committed to the Olympism365 vision,” he added. Kajangwe emphasized the importance of integrating the strategy into all facets of sports development in the country. “We strongly encourage all our member national federations to incorporate Olympism365 into their strategic plans. Promoting sport-based community initiatives should go hand in hand with the pursuit of elite performance,” he said. Olympism365 also aims to increase public recognition of the value and essential services provided by safe, inclusive, and sustainable community sports organizations. It encourages impactful collaboration between the sports movement, the social development sector, and for-purpose businesses.
