Rwanda Premier League (RPL) champions APR FC are understood to be close to reaching an agreement with Ghanaian club Berekum Chelsea for the services of Ghana Premier League top scorer Stephen Amankona. The versatile forward netted 15 goals in the just-concluded 2024/25 season to claim the Golden Boot. Remarkably, this marks the third consecutive season that he has recorded double figures in goals. A source close to the player confirmed to Times Sport that contact has already been made. APR have inquired about Stephen Amankona as they believe he can strengthen their attacking options, especially for their continental campaign, the source said. Amankona, 24, is a key member of Ghana’s home-based national team, the Black Galaxies. Although he primarily operates from the flanks, he is also comfortable playing as a central or supporting striker. Elsewhere, Mukura Victory Sports are in advanced talks to sign Etincelles midfielder Sadjat Niyonkuru on a two-year deal. If nothing happens to hinder the deal, the attacking midfielder could be completed in the coming week. Lastly, Nigerian right back Mercy Ikenna whose contract with Gorilla FC has come to an end is being courted by his former club AS Muhanga. He was part of the Muhanga team which was relegated from the RPL during the 2020/21 season before joining Gorilla where he has spent four seasons.
