A new hangout spot ‘Kamahwa Food Court, Retail and Venue’ officially opened in Nyarutarama, Kigali, on Saturday, May 24, and SKOL Brewery (SBL)’s Virunga Silver beer was served to each and everyone at the place to make the opening a pure spectacle. Virunga Silver’s presence was important in recognizing how it continues to become people’s favourite across the country. Guests had the chance to enjoy the taste of the beer, made with 100 per cent malt. The beer is brewed with a special variety of hops known as “Citra” which gives it a refreshing and unique flavor, an ideal choice for the ‘summer’ season. In addition to Virunga Silver, other SKOL beer variants such as Virunga Gold and Virunga Mist were also available, with guests sipping endlessly and enjoying the flavors throughout the celebration. The city’s new spot was graced by “Active8” Disk Jockeys, featuring DJs Nicolas Peks, Fistom, Kevin Klein, Ninny, and Smooth Kriminal. They performed under the theme “Sound Check,” an expected monthly celebration of AfroHouse music that honors Afrobeat and locally produced music. From the entrance to its settings, Kamahwa is an open space for everyone and clearly a new safe haven for nature lovers. It offers all the essential elements to be considered a nature-friendly space, with an ecosystem that supports and conserves the environment. It promotes climate awareness while maintaining a business-friendly atmosphere. He said the new venue can now serve different elements, and the collaboration with SKOL aims to provide varieties like connecting people through sports, networking, and entertainment as they enjoy the ecosystem. “This is a home to everyone. Our DJs prioritize Afrohouse music to promote our own art because foreigners need to find us with our own identity. We may occasionally feature foreign DJs, but for now, the priority is on local talent. This is for music enthusiasts, Made-in-Rwanda products, and partygoers,” he said. Virunga brand is dedicated to producing high-quality products, with a focus on creating unique drinking experiences for its consumers. The success of the launch party showcased the brand’s innovative approach and strong connection with its audience. The venue also features vendors’ selling arts and Made-in-Rwanda products that tell the local story through culturally significant history. This is a business opportunity and a means of preserving heritage. Salah Legrand, an experienced model and part of Kamahwa ventures, lives her childhood dream, where her first ambition was to be trained in jewelry making at the “Art and Crafts Institute’ in Brussels (Belgium). Through those exciting studies she created her brand “K'TSOBE”, a nod to her maternal clan “ABATSOBE”. “My sources of inspiration come from my Belgian-Rwandan cultural mix, from my sensitivity, from nature and from the symbols of the different cultures seen during my travels around the world,” she said. “By K’tsobe, my greatest desire is that these jewels follow you in your daily life. They reveal the uniqueness and emotions of the person who wears them, they are an expression of your personality. Some of them are inspired by Imigongo patterns to promote culture,” she added. The venue is where flavours meet culture; food, music, good times, bold bites, crafted sips, unplugged vibes and more.
