Al Ahli SC head coach Fouad Abou Chacra has heaped praise on his star player Jean Jacques Boissy for being at heart of the club’s hot streak in the Nile Conference taking place in Kigali. The Libyan champions beat home side APR 90-68 on Tuesday, May 20, to finish the first round of the conference unbeaten, courtesy of Boissy’s stellar exploits which currently rank him at the top of the scoring ladder. Chacra expressed admiration for the Senegalese point guard for rising to the occasion and take a lead to help the team beat the army side before the home crowd. “Today, against APR, I told Boissy that he was the only player playing at home, and he later proved it against them by scoring 27 points,” Chacra said in post-game interview. Boissy, who features for Rwanda Energy Group (REG) in the Rwanda Basketball League, has been an ever reliable asset for Al Ahli in every single match he played in the Nile Conference so far. He scored 28 points in club’s 87-77 win over South African club, Made By Basketball (MBB), on Saturday, May 17, before setting a record by becoming the first player to score 30 points in a single game in the Nile Conference when his team beat Nairobi City Thunder 115-87 the following day. This surpassed the previous record set by US Monastir when they defeated GNBC of Madagascar 113-66 in the inaugural BAL edition. Deon Thompson, one of the most experienced players in the Libyan squad with a background in American and European leagues, commented on the incredible ability of their leading scorer in the past three games. “I think, with his ability and attitude, Boissy can play in a very high league, EuroLeague or even higher than that. It’s all about opportunity, and when he meets a coach who believes in him, he can do the best that anyone ever expected,” Thompson said. The second round of the Nile Conference will start on Thursday, May 22. Al Ahly will take on NCT, while APR will face MBB.
