The association of Genocide survivors Ibuka has called for an investigation into murder of a survivor in Nyamasheke District. Ibuka calls for a thorough investigation into this murder so that anyone involved in it may be brought to justice and held fully accountable,” the association said in a statement. ALSO READ: Ngoma: Missing head of slain Genocide survivor found Ibuka insisted that those who persist in such behaviour should face exemplary punishment. “Ibuka also urges anyone still harbouring such cruelty to abandon it. May the departed rest in eternal peace,” it said. The incident occured amid calls for stronger action to prevent attacks on Genocide survivors and to tackle persistent genocide ideology. ALSO READ: Over 230 arrested for genocide ideology in 100 days According to Rwanda Investigation Bureau (RIB), attacks on genocide survivors accounted for 50 percent of 2,660 cases of genocide ideology and related crimes reported between 2019 and 2023. RIB recorded 82 cases related to genocide ideology and associated crimes during the 31st commemoration week of the Genocide. A detailed breakdown of the 82 cases shows that 36 of them involved violence against genocide survivors.
