Serving as CEO of ‘Empire Menswear’, The Trainer has carved out a distinctive niche in the menswear scene. His approach represents both a return to tradition and a bold statement about modern masculinity. In an exclusive interview with The New Times, he opens up about his fashion choices, style inspiration and the personal philosophy that guides his wardrobe decisions. Finding his cloth While his interest in fashion began in his young age, it wasn’t until 2021 that this passion crystallized into ‘Empire Menswear’. He distilled his signature style into three words—elegant, tailored, confident. These aren't just descriptors of his clothing but principles that guide his entire creative philosophy. My style has evolved from casual experimentation to refined tailoring. Focusing on precision, fit, and elegance,” he explained. Choosing between tradition and trend The fashion industry is often driven by fleeting trends; however, The Trainer maintains a refreshingly balanced perspective. I observe trends but filter them through the lens of timeless menswear. My focus is on classic pieces that evolve subtly rather than chase fast fashion,” he said. This approach is evident in his appreciation for the underrated revival of double-breasted suits, which he believes command presence and look incredible when tailored properly. His inspirations span decades and disciplines, from cinema icons like Cary Grant to contemporary trendsetters, architectural details, natural color palettes, and even musical rhythms. The psychology of color and cut For The Trainer, fashion is far more than aesthetic but psychological. Color sets the tone. A navy suit feels powerful and dependable, while earth tones communicate warmth and creativity. This strategic understanding of color's emotional impact informs both his personal style and client recommendations. The most meaningful piece in my wardrobe is a suit I designed for my very first client that reminds me of where I started and how far I have come,” he said. Crafting confidence through clothing When preparing looks for significant events The Trainer begins with purpose before proceeding to the palette. That said, he starts with the purpose and mood of the event, then chooses fabrics and colors that speak to it. “Fit is everything, so I make sure every element enhances the wearer's confidence.” This emphasis on confidence-building extends to his accessorizing philosophy, where restraint reigns supreme. Less is more. I prefer one statement piece like a bold watch or pocket square that enhances rather than competes with the outfit. Similarly, to my footwear preference, well-crafted oxford shoes reflect my appreciation for versatility and timeless design,” he said. Wardrobe luxuries Concerning essential wardrobe investments, The Trainer said that a custom-tailored navy suit is the perfect choice. “It's the most versatile and dependable piece a man can own. My most expensive item is an Italian wool and cashmere polyester fabric I used to craft a bespoke suit for a major client. It cost around 1000$ but the satisfaction and result were absolutely worth it,” he said. Interesting part of the business? Before completing any garment, I always take a moment of silence to appreciate the creative process and think of the client wearing it confidently. A legacy in the making Reflecting on his decision to specialize in menswear suits, The Trainer noted that suits are the ultimate symbol of refinement and power. He saw a gap in personalized menswear that still honored tradition, and he wanted to fill that space with quality and innovation. As for the legacy he hopes to leave, his ambitions transcend mere aesthetics.
