Rwandan rap duo RoMeo Rapstar and Pogatsa have joined forces on Urukerereza, a collaborative album that merges the sounds of Rwanda’s musical past with the grit and pulse of contemporary hip-hop. The title, Urukerereza—which translates to “The Delayer,” captures the album’s immersive effect. From its opening bars to its final notes, the project is crafted to pull listeners into a soundscape so rich and meditative that it seems to bend time. “It’s not just an album you listen to—it’s one you absorb from start to finish, no skips,” read a statement from their label, Green Ferry Music. Romeo and Pogatsa's lyrics are based on cultural memory, lived experiences, and a strong sense of fortitude. We wanted to bring the past into the present—not by copying it, but by channeling the feeling and weight of the sounds we grew up with, said Romeo, adding, Our identity and origins are reflected in this project.
