Rayon Sports proved their title credentials on Sunday with a 2-1 win over Etincelles at Umuganda Stadium. Forward Abeddy Biramahire was the hero of the day as his strike in either half handed the Blues a well-deserved victory over Etincelles. The crucial win in Rubavu powered the Blues back to the top of the Rwanda Premier League table, restoring their 1-point lead over title rivals APR FC who hammered Rutsiro FC 5-0 on Saturday. The game started with a high tempo as the pair tried to unsettle each other by dominating ball possession. Etincelles midfielder Armani Rutayisire nearly fired his side ahead in the 9th minute with a thunderous free kick but Rayon’s goalkeeper Patient Ndikuriyo came to the rescue as he dived full length to save the effort. The visitors came strongly into the game using their flanks to great effect. Aziz Bassane and Junior Elenga were a delight to watch with their surging runs down the flanks. Claude Rwaka’s side broke the deadlock of the game in the 34th minute through red hot forward Biramahire who tapped in a cross from Hakim Bugingo from the right after the left back had received a pass from Bassane in the buildup. Early in the second half, Aziz Bassane was unlucky as he missed the scoring chance that could have doubled Rayon’s lead in the 48th minute. The winger went through the middle and beat three players before unleashing a stinging drive which crushed the woodwork to the relief of Etincelles bench. Rayon's dominance in the second half paid off as skipper Kevin Muhire set up Biramahire for his second goal of the day to make it 2-0 in the 74th minute.
