APR VC secured their ticket to the semi-finals of the African Volleyball Club Championship after coming from behind to snatch a victory over home side El Itihad in four sets (17-25, 25-19, 25-19, 25-21) in Sunday’s quarterfinal match in Misurata, Libya. El Itihad capitalized on the home advantage from the crowd to secure the first set 25-17 but Sammy Mulinge’s lions roared back to put three straight sets past the Libyans to clinch the victory. Trail the game with a set down, APR regrouped in the second set and eventually claimed it 25-19. The team had regained confidence and went on to win the third and fourth sets 25-19 and 25-21 respectively. With the win, APR became just the third Rwandan team to reach the semifinals of the competition, joining National University of Rwanda (NUR) and Gisagara VC, who previously achieved the feat in 2011 and 2022 both under Rwandan coach Fidele Nyirimana. APR will now face, Swehly Sports Club, also from Libya, in the semifinals. The latter advanced in the last four after defeating Moroccan side Union Sport Club in three sets ( 25-18, 25-11, 25-14) in the quarterfinals on Sunday.
