Pictures' horror film Sinners took the top spot at the North American box office on its opening weekend with an estimated three-day cume of 45.6 million U.S. dollars, data from measurement firm Comscore showed on Sunday. Written and directed by Ryan Coogler, the film stars Michael B. Jordan in a dual role as twin brothers who return to their hometown to start again, only to discover that an even greater evil is waiting to welcome them back. The film has received a near-perfect approval rating of 98 percent based on 241 reviews on the review-aggregation website Rotten Tomatoes. It also earned an A on an A+ to F scale from audiences polled by the market research firm CinemaScore. Overseas, Sinners took in 15.4 million dollars for a global total of 61 million dollars through Sunday. In a close second, Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures' fantasy comedy film A Minecraft Movie generated 41.3 million dollars on its third weekend for a North American cume of 344.6 million dollars. Rounding out the top three, Angel Studios' animated film The King of Kings earned 17.3 million dollars on its second weekend for a North American total of 45.3 million dollars.
