The Rwandan community in Singapore, members of the diplomatic corps, and friends of Rwanda, on April 7, joined Rwanda and the world in commemorating the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi. ALSO READ: Kagame urges Rwandans to fight for their dignified lives According to the Rwandan High Commission in Singapore, the commemoration event took place at the Tanglin Club Theatrette and was attended by over 250 people. In his remarks, Rwanda’s High Commissioner to Singapore, Jean de Dieu Uwihanganye, emphasized that while the genocide against the Tutsi remains one of the most devastating human tragedies of the 20th century, the pain is deepened by the fact that it could have been prevented. The event featured a panel discussion that discussed the transmission of memories. The panellists included genocide survivors, Grace Kansayisa and Pacifique Mukaseti, who shared their painful experiences during the 1994 Genocide. Leslie Sheja, a second-generation survivor (the children of genocide survivors) was also on the panel.
