All clubs participating in the 2025 Women’s African Volleyball Club Championship in Abuja, Nigeria, are set to join Rwanda’s APR and Police Women’s clubs, for the 31st Commemoration of the Genocide against the Tutsi on Monday, April 7. The continental women’s volleyball competition started on April 3 and will run until April 15. The tournament will take a one-day break on Monday after the confederation of African Volleyball (CAVB) granted Rwandan teams participating at the tournament to observe the Commemoration of the Genocide against the Tutsi in 1994. As a result, delegations from both teams, together with other teams, are expected to join the Rwandan community in Nigeria for the commemoration activity which will take place in Abuja, the city hosting the tournament. Times Sport understands that, the two Rwandan clubs also requested CAVB that, before playing their matches, they can observe a minute of silence in honour of more than 1,000,000 Tutsi victims killed during the 1994 Genocide. Each team won once and lost once in their respective groups A and D. APR beat Tunisian side Féminin de Carthage (CFC) on Thursday before suffering a defeat at the hands of Maya Kane Evolution. Meanwhile, Police WVC had a slow start to the tournament, losing the opening game to Kenya Pipeline but rebounded in their second game against Club Omnisports Descartes, winning the game in three straight sets. They then blew their chances of advancing to the quarterfinals after losing Cameroonian giants Litto Team Volleyball 3-2 in the tie break. The tournament resumes on Tuesday, April 8, with quarterfinals and classification matches.
