A man suspected of killing Chantal Muhongerwa, a survivor of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi in Bugesera District, has been arrested, Rwanda National Police announced. Muhongerwa, 47, was a mother of four children. Her body was found in the bush by a neighbor who was cutting fodder on Saturday morning in Kabaha Village, Kanzenze Cell, Ntarama Sector. We have received this information, and we have already apprehended one person suspected of being involved in the murder. The suspect is currently detained at Nyamata Police Station while investigation continues, the National Police stated. Attacks against genocide survivors accounted for 50 percent of these cases reported between 2019 and 2023, while genocide ideology cases accounted for 22 percent.
