Rwanda international Fiston Munezero has announced his retirement from professional football, bringing his 14-year career to an end. The former Rayon Sports and Kiyovu SC center back was forced to hang up his boots after failure to recover from a tendon injury he suffered in 2019 during his spell at Kiyovu SC. “I had tendon injury in 2019 and I went to see the doctor but when he performed a surgery, he couldn’t see any problem yet I kept feeling the pain,” the former Rayon Sports defender said. “I had a wonderful time as a footballer with many great, emotional moments. I’ll always keep that with me,” he added. Munezero was last on the field in 2024 at KMC in Tanzania. He also played for Rayon Sports FC between 2015 and 2017 before moving to Police FC from 2017 to 2019. He also played for Kiyovu Sports in 2019 before signing a one year-deal for Etoile de l’Est in October 2021. At international football, he played for Rwanda one game. Munezero started his career at Flambeau de l’Est in Burundi in 2010. He spent three years at the club before moving to Sunrise FC. In 2022, he joined Espoir and a year later, he got a deal to join KMC in Tanzania but the club terminated his contract due to an injury.
