President Paul Kagame received a delegation from the African Institute for Mathematical Sciences (AIMS), led by founder and Chairman of the AIMS International Governing Board, Professor Neil Turok, at Urugwiro Village, on Friday, March 21. According to the President’s Office, their discussions focused on opportunities to amplify training, research and engagement with mathematical sciences in Rwanda. The Founder of the African Institute for Mathematical Sciences, Prof. Turok, is also the founder of the AIMS Network and current Higgs Chair of Theoretical Physics at the University of Edinburgh, at the School of Physics and Astronomy. The South African physicist is a former Director of the Perimeter Institute for Theoretical Physics and former Chair of Mathematical Physics at Cambridge University, and present Chair of the AIMS South Africa Council. Turok founded AIMS in Cape Town in 2003. AIMS has since expanded to a network of five centres – in Rwanda, South Africa, Senegal, Ghana, and Cameroon, becoming Africa’s most renowned institution for post-graduate training in mathematical science.
