Rwanda assistant coach Eric Nshimiyimana has hailed former coach Torsten Spittler for laying a foundation for the team in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers and promised to build on it. Spittler left Amavubi at the top of Group C in the World Cup 2026 qualifiers with 7 points when he left his role in December 2024 and his successor Adel Amrouche has a tough task to build on the German’s success as he starts a new era. Amrouche, who took over the national team in early March, currently has Amavubi legend Eric Nshimiyimana as part of his backroom. Nshimiyimana said Spittler has achieved a lot during his time with Amavubi and he believes it must be a continuity even after his departure from the role. He stated that Amavubi are well poised for action and they have an advantage over Nigeria as they are on top of the table. Spittler started well and the team is in good position, I hope we can build on what he did by maintaining the team at the top of the world cup qualifiers, he stated No pressure! The Super Eagles are in Kigali to win and boost their World Cup 2026 qualification hopes. But that doesn’t put any pressure on Rwanda, according to captain Djihad Bizimana despite the fact that Nigeria brought all their big name players for the crunch clash. We have played against them before and there is no pressure. We just respect them but they don't scare us. We are looking forward to the game, Bizimana told journalists during a pre-match press conference on Thursday. A win for Rwanda would move them to 10 points before hosting Lesotho in Kigali on Tuesday, March 25.
