MTN Rwanda has appointed Ali Monzer as its new Chief Executive Officer, succeeding Mapula Bodibe, who has held the position since September 2022. Prior to this appointment, Monzer was the CEO of MTN South Sudan, a position that will be held by Mapula as she rotates within the MTN Group. He is expected to assume office on April 22. During his term at the helm of MTN South Sudan, Monzer steered the company through a period of economic turbulence, which saw stabilization of operations and expansion of market share, achieving real revenue growth. The management commended his efforts in championing customer-first transformation, reclaiming MTN'S leadership in Net Promoter Score (NPS) testament to the brand's renewed trust and market dominance. “His unwavering focus on operational efficiency, digital innovation, and customer experience cemented MTN South Sudan's position as the nation's telecom leader, Internally, he fostered culture of excellence and engagement, driving one of the highest employee engagement scores,” reads the statement in part. Prior to his role as CEO of MTN South Sudan, Monzer served as Chief Technology and information Officer at MTN Uganda. He also held various senior roles across the MTN Group, including General Manager, Solution Delivery of MTN Nigeria. Faustin Mbundu, Chairman of MTN Rwanda, said that Monzer's extensive experience of 21 years in telecoms will certainly bode well for MTN Rwanda.” Monzer joins the telco that has had a difficult period of 2024 financial performance. In 2024, MTN recorded a modest increase in service revenue, growing by 4.6 per cent to Rwf257.7 billion. However, the telco registered a loss after tax of Rwf5.5 billion in the same period, a 194.1 per cent decline from the profit recorded in the previous year. The financial performance was attributed to low revenue growth and high operating costs. The slow growth has been the case throughout the 2024 quarterly financial results.
